This internship program, designed specifically for high school students, incorporates tours and presentations on the different branches of Hillsborough County Government with hands-on, intern-led projects that teach the interns how to work in a government management setting. The program starts out with an orientation week, followed by a week filled with multiple tours of Hillsborough County Offices. After this week of tours concludes, the students are expected to have designed a project to work on over the next five weeks. The interns set their own schedules and time frames, work hands-on with the staff in the Property Appraiser’s Office, and are guided throughout the whole process by the Director of the Program, Nereia Cormier. Throughout their projects, the students are encouraged to think outside the box and only present work of their best abilities. After all of the projects are completed, they are presented to the Hillsborough County Commissioners and the interns are recognized for their achievements.
